So yesterday I finally went old school and joined a van dwelling forum. I will not name it because I have no problem with the owner of the site and it is still very helpful for guides and information and I was welcomed warmly when I posted my Newbie Intro.
What I had a problem with was a few of the other members.
I posted a thread asking if there was a section for people to exchange social media and youtube channel information so that we could learn from each other etc etc. Below is a copy of my original post.
Hi all. I am still looking around the forum for my van related issues but I was wondering if there is a thread here that helps people grow their social media profiles like twitter and youtube?
Every time I try and do some research I find a sub for sub and follow for follow which is a great idea, but the places I found are full of kids and gaming channels.
I think it would be great if we could do something like that for the Van/RV community. Forums like this are great but when I am out in my van I am mostly on twitter or youtube when looking for some suggestions.
Sorry if there is already a thread up about this or let me know if you think you would be interested in setting it up.
Now off to explore the forums some more
Kylie
To say the least most of the people that replied sounded like a bunch of paranoid gun crazed preppers.
Now I do understand that a lot of people living the nomad life may have limited data so avoid using it for Twitter, Facebook, and other social platforms. But I was asking about connecting with others that are more like me. Urban dwellers and travelers that are blogging and making videos.
Also, I was hoping to make more local connections as I am in Canada and the site is mostly American
So I replied nicely to each comment trying to explain what I was looking for and then went to bed.
When I logged on this morning, after thinking of a better way to explain my ideas and how I think it could help build the van dwelling community, I find a few more crazy replies and see the thread had been closed due to going off topic. This was in less than 24hours.
Now my biggest question is this. If you are so tight on data, have no interest in other forms of social media, why on earth are you spending your time and data on replying to a thread with the title "Help Build Social Media for Van/RV community"?
Well now that I have that out of my system, time to go do some sanding on my van.
Happy adventures and safe travels.
Kylie
